Seems that Fallout 3’s latest piece of trouble-plagued downloadable content, Broken Steel, has launched broken. Least, it is on PC. Shocking, I know.
A ton of people keen enough to install the game as soon as it went live this morning have been met with the following message:
Not a cryptographic message or the cryptographic message is not formatted correctly. (Exception from HRESULT: 0×8009200D)
And then the thing won’t work. Bethesda say they’re looking into it, but, well, as someone who hasn’t been able to play Fallout 3 on PC at all (it just won’t stop freezing on the menu screen, regardless of updates), this is all getting a bit depressing.

Several online retailers are listing a DVD containing the Fallout 3 Broken Steel expansion and something called Point Look, leading to speculation that more downloadable content is on the way.
Three separate online retailers are now listing a Fallout 3 Expansion Pack – Broken Steel and Point Look product for the Xbox 360, including eStarland, MSN Shopping, and Bountii. The latter of actually lists the product as Point Lookout, which is a state park in developer Bethesda’s home state of Maryland. The listings have led to speculation that this is a new, unannounced Expansion for Fallout 3. Read more…
Broken Steel, the third downloadable episode for the PC and Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3, will raise the game’s level cap to 30 and remove the games ending on May 5, Bethesda announced this week.
Broken Steel will sell for 800 points and will include an entire new area outside of Fallout 3’s wasteland based on Andrews Air Force Base. The new DLC will also include more weapons, enemies and perks, including one that can bring back your dog when he’s killed. Read more…

Here’s a cute story. Reader Josh was taking a little trip the other day on Delta Air Lines when he threw on his free headphones and heard something familiar.
Flipping open the airline’s “Sky” magazine, Josh noticed that, on channel 6A, they were playing “The Music of Fallout 3″.
The classic songbook of the ’40s & ’50s punctuate the music from the video game “Fallout 3.” Selections from greats such as Cole Porter are intertwined with brief interview segments about the music selections.
