By now, most of the gaming community have seen the latest reviews for GT on PSP. But what is extraordinary is the lackluster reviews from well know gaming websites such as IGN (6.8/10), Eurogamer (7/10) and CVG (6.7/10).
While there were some positive reviews (Videogamer.com comes to mind (9/10)), I’m really very disappointed, as I have expected the game to get better scores and to be more positively received by the critics.
While GT5 will be different (it’s on PS3), I’m very concerned about the quality of the upcoming PS3 exclusive, GT5. The game has been in development for over three years, and in my opinion, Polyphony Digital the developers of the GT series has made some mistakes during the course of developing GT5; GT Prologue had slowed down the development of GT5, as it made them racing against time to finish the development of the game (I doubt if we will see the game this year). Also, they haven’t planned to feature car damage from the beginning of the development, which is questioning the quality of the previously mentioned feature.
GT5 looks very promising as it has over 1,000 cars, 80 tracks and the best graphics seen in a racing game. But GT5 does have a very hard competition this time around from Forza 3. So what do you think, will Polyphony Digital return on top of the game by delivering the best racing sim ever or it will be disappointing like GT on PSP?
ZeroTolerance writes: When I reviewed the original DiRT nearly two years ago it was considered one of the best looking games ever created. Here we sit more than 24 months later and the game still looks phenomenal, which makes the fact that DiRT 2 looks even better, all the more astonishing. Codemasters takes great pride in their racing games, and it shows. DiRT 2 presents itself with some of the slickest navigation as well as the lushest visual appearance I have seen in quite some time. Combine this with the fact that it plays like you would imagine a Codemasters iteration of a rally racing game to play, and you have the ultimate off-road package. The only downside is that the team seems to have slowly stripped away a lot of the sim aspects of the series, which will be good for some, and not so much for others.
The core Virtua Tennis gameplay is certainly strong enough to stand on its own, but the addition of bizarre, sometimes freakish “Court Games” is what makes the series so memorable. Read more…
